NBA Champion calls out Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. ahead of preseason

Ja Morant will be allowed to take part in team workouts and practices during the coming months.

but the Memphis Grizzlies will still be forced to play their first 25 games of the 2023–24 season without their star guard while he serves his league-imposed ban.

Many are looking to recently extended Desmond Bane to step in as the team's go-to option during this time and, in turn, advance from being viewed as a budding stud to a bona genuine star.

Kendrick Perkins, a former big man and 2008 NBA Champion, singled out Jaren Jackson Jr. during a recent appearance on ESPN's NBA Today.

As the guy he thinks would need to step up the most during Morant's early season absence.

"I'm staring at Jaren Jackson Jr. and I'm thinking, wait a minute — NBA All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year last year.

I expect him to score 22 to 25 points on average each game, grab 10 to 12 rebounds, anchor the defense, and be the best player on the team until Ja Morant is back, according to Perkins.

Jackson, as Perkins noted, is coming off the best season of his soon-to-be six-year career with the Grizzlies.
