Athletes and fans were praying for Damar Hamlin after his on-field collapse.

Social media users, celebrities, and athletes all expressed their condolences and prayers for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Monday following his collapse on the field during a game.

When Hamlin, 24, collapsed following a collision in the first quarter of an NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals, he was taken to a hospital on Monday night in critical condition. Online, observers seemed to be holding their breath waiting to find out what had happened, how Hamlin was doing, and even whether the game would be called.

A number of NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, the Arizona Cardinals, the Seattle Seahawks, and the New York Giants, shared prayers for Hamlin on Twitter. The NFL and the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League were among the sports

organizations outside of football that took notice of his condition. The Bruins posted on Twitter, saying, "We join the sports world in keeping Damar Hamlin and his family, friends, and teammates in our prayers."

Outside of the sports world, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Walt Disney Company CEO Robert Iger expressed their prayers for Hamlin on Twitter. "Tonight, we are all Buffalo Bills supporters," Mr. Murphy declared.

Following Hamlin's collapse, Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt stated on Twitter that the game was “not important.” Watt stated, "Damar Hamlin's life is important." "Please, don't worry. Please. The former NFL player Robert Griffin III took to Twitter to ask for more than just well wishes for Hamlin.

On Twitter, Griffin asked his followers not to post the video of Hamlin's crash and subsequent collapse. Instead, Griffin asked that people share pictures. From the moment Hamlin went down on the field until the NFL announced that the game would be rescheduled, more than an hour passed. Many on social media, including Griffin, called for the game to be called during that period and after it ended.

In an all-caps tweet, Griffin stated, "CANCEL THE GAME ALREADY." Griffin stated in another post that "no one cares about this game at all anymore." I'm sending prayers for Damar Hamlin—a brother, friend, son, and man. Although a lot of people were traumatized by what happened just now,

what matters most is that he stays with us. To offer prayers for the player, some fans disconnected from social media. A Cincinnati Enquirer photojournalist saw a group of fans wearing Bills and Bengals apparel congregate outside the hospital where Hamlin was receiving treatment and pray for him.
