Raiders Could Sign Chiefs’ $19.5 Million All-Pro in Free Agency, Says Analyst

Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to find a reliable defensive lineman since Tommy Kelly left in 2012. According to Bleacher Report, it may be time to pursue an NFL superstar.

Due to a contract dispute, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones missed training camp and Week 1. He signed a one-year revised contract and will become a free agent at the conclusion of the year.

Jones was a 2024 Raiders free agent target, per Bleacher Report. “The Chiefs and Chris Jones ironed things out for the 2023 season with some incentives that upped his earning potential this season,” BR NFL Staff wrote on September 25.

The franchise tag might be used on him next season, but it would be costly. He may enter free agency, where teams would open the vault to sign him.

Raiders should be first in line. Jones is an inside force who would work with Crosby to improve the Raiders defense.”

Raiders lack interior pass rush. Las Vegas defensive tackles have 4.0 sacks in 20 games. In two games this season, Jones has 2.5 sacks and 15.5 last year.

Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby has 19 quarterback pressures, tied for the NFL lead, according to Pro Football Focus. Nobody else on defense has more than five.

The only Raiders defense that can regularly pressure the quarterback is Crosby. He is often double-teamed since offenses rarely risk another player providing pressure.
