This week, the LSU community is keeping head coach of the women’s basketball team Kim Mulkey in their thoughts.
Mulkey noticed that the very end of one of her fingers had become numb throughout the course of the summer. Mulkey found out that she had a blocked artery after making an appointment with her doctors.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Mulkey had two stents placed into a coronary artery that had between 95 and 99% blockage. Thankfully, that was the solution that the 61-year-old coach needed to fix the issue.
“I never even felt bad,” Mulkey stated, according to ESPN. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we stumbled into this by accident. Therefore, the takeaway from this is that everybody over the age of 50 should receive a stress test. I’ve had some of my former colleagues tell me, ‘We’re going to do it,’ and I’m really excited about it. That is why I am going to share these facts with you. If there is anything that can be done to assist other individuals, I will gladly share my knowledge. It’s a valuable lesson for those of us who like to fool ourselves into thinking that nothing bad would ever happen to us.
Despite the fact that Mulkey is back in full swing, basketball enthusiasts are showing their support on Tuesday.
Someone stated, “I’m glad she caught it in time and is doing well,” and I completely agree with them.
“OMG, that’s serious,” a second fan added in his or her comment.
This next Tuesday, Mulkey and the Tigers will, in fact, participate in CPR instruction.
In the second half of the current season, the LSU women’s basketball team will formally begin the defense of their title.
