After the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, Deadpool 3 filming recently began, and fresh set photos have been making the rounds online hinting at the return and eventual destruction of another original X-Men character. Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine in the multiverse film, as we well know, and there have been strong hints that Patrick Stewart may play Professor Charles Xavier as a follow-up to his debut as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But it appears that more than just X-Men heroes will be joining Deadpool for some fun. Images released by The Mirror show Wolverine facing off against Sabertooth, who was originally portrayed by Tyler Mane in the 2000 X-Men film and subsequently by Liev Schreiber in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The various cameos that have been hinted at for the multiverse-spanning film suggest that both actors may be reprising their roles, but this has not been confirmed. Fans have already deduced that Mane is in the picture.While there aren’t any Adamantium claws seen in one of the pictures, Wolverine strikes Sabertooth in another and the fact that Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson is seen clutching Sabertooth’s severed skull in another suggests that the character won’t be making a major comeback in the MCU. Despite being the lone MCU film of 2024, the images once again embrace the kind of R-rated violence that the Deadpool franchise has often embraced.  It appears that fans of family-friendly Marvel films will have to wait until 2025 to find them.

The narrative of Deadpool 3 is mainly unknown, yet there are more speculations floating about than for any other Marvel Studios film in recent years. Given the underwhelming reception to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, it appears that Kevin Feige and his team are now looking to Deadpool’s massive popularity – and the potential of a true multiverse adventure – to right the MCU ship ahead of films like The Fantastic Four, Blade, and Avengers: Secret Wars in the coming years.
Deadpool 3 appears to be pulling out all the stops to not only outperform the previous entries in the franchise, but also to save the MCU by delving back into the history of Marvel movies and reportedly closing a number of doors to the past, including one to the old Fox universe of characters.
Naturally, the chances of finding out exactly what this entails before the movie hits theaters on July 26, 2024 are slim, but it would be foolish not to expect more set leaks and rumors in the coming months about what appears to be a movie that, despite its restrictive rating, could please fans and become one of the biggest Marvel movies of the last several years.
Overall, the path seems clear for Reynolds and Jackman to have a spectacular MCU debut. If there was ever an epic Deadpool-worthy manner to enter the Marvel Studios franchise, it appears that the world has conspired to ensure that all eyes are on the Merc with a Mouth’s arrival – exactly as he would want it.
Yesterday evening, new photos from the set of Deadpool 3 found their way online showing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine battling Tyler Mane’s version of Sabretooth from 2000’s X-Men.
Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with the Mouth was later spotted carrying the villain’s head, and a few more images – shared on social media by @kaiquechaves004 – show the moment Deadpool removes it. Wolverine, meanwhile, appears to be heading into battle with Wade Wilson’s katanas stuck in his chest.
We’ve heard that X-Men’s Toad was also spotted on set (we’re anticipating even more pictures dropping soon), though it’s currently unclear whether Mane and Ray Park are reprising their respective roles here.
It’s not outside the realm of possibility that Liev Schreiber has replaced Mane as this animalistic Sabretooth. However, with no official casting announcements made by Marvel Studios regarding these cameos, we’ll have to wait and see.
A closer look at one of the set photos released yesterday also includes what some fans believe could be a nod to the Fantastic Four. As you can see, there’s what appears to be a classic hot rod emblazoned with flames, and the vehicle looks strikingly similar to one the Human Torch drove in 2006’s Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four #12.
The version of the Fantastic Four that first appeared on screen in 2005 is rumoured to be part of Deadpool 3, so Deadpool and Wolverine may cross paths with Johnny Storm and the rest of Marvel’s First Family in The Void.
