Aaron Rodgers: New York Jets quarterback rules out return from Achilles injury this week, sets sights on 2024

Aaron Rodgers stated during his weekly interview on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ that he will not play again for the New York Jets during the current NFL season; the 40-year-old now has his sights set on the 2024 season and has declared his determination to play beyond then.
Aaron Rodgers has shifted his focus to the 2024 NFL season after suggesting he will not play for the New York Jets again before the end of the current season.

During his weekly visit on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, the 40-year-old said that he is still not totally recovered from a damaged left Achilles tendon. If the Jets had defeated the Miami Dolphins last Sunday and remained in contention for a postseason spot, Rodgers indicated that he “would have pushed it as far as I could this week” to be ready to face the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

However, they were blasted 30-0 and eliminated from playoff contention for the 13th consecutive year. “I’d be pushing to play if I was 100 percent today,” Rodgers said. “But I’m not…I pushed it as far as I could.”

Rodgers did not explicitly rule out playing again this season, but he did strongly suggest it.

Rodgers’ 21-day practice window opened on November 29 and he has until Wednesday to be activated from the injured reserve list.

If they do not, the Super Bowl XLV champion and MVP will be placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. Rodgers still needs to be medically cleared, which appeared to be a possibility before those conversations. Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon four snaps into his Jets debut on September 11. He had surgery two days later and was attempting to make the quickest return to play of any known professional athlete.

Rodgers’ surgery, which reportedly featured a’speed bridge’ – an internal brace on the Achilles tendon – treatment to help quicken the recovery process, will be 14 weeks old on Wednesday.

Rodgers also stated that he does not believe next season will be his last in the NFL, and that he has always wanted to play for the Jets for at least two years.

He expressed his want to return to the field and expressed confidence in the Jets’ future, vowing full trust in general manager Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and stating that the team needed to “reload” rather than “rebuild” during the summer. “I felt like I got a renewed passion and love for the game when I came here,” Rodgers remarked. “Everything has been incredible here.

“I was hoping for at least two years.” I feel like this is a lost year for me now that I’ve just played a few of snaps.
